Sacred Space and the issue of Time Travel
Posted in Uncategorized on April 28th, 2008One of the interesting points raised in the Cairo Working thread on Lashtal , is that Crowley purposely hid the precise time and date of Aiwass’s communication with him. To me there is more to this than meets the eye. Crowley was probably protecting the communication and the link, from future interference. One of the concepts/ideas of sacred space is to ensure minimum corruption from exterior influence in practice and communication. In laymans terms this is to ensure that the magick of the past is not corrupted or manipulated by misguided corrupted occultists in the future who would seek to go back and interfere with specific magickal currents to suit their own agenda.
If Time Travel will exist then why havent we seen any Time Travellers here and now?
In theoretical physics they is already debate and theories about the development of time travel in maybe 150 years from now. One of the debates concerns the lack of evidence of time travel here and now. Now on this level if time travel exists in the 23rd century why the lack of interference in this time? Well it could be that they havent sorted out the theories of manipulating us herein the present and the effect it would have on them in 200 years. But this wouldnt affect a 23rd century occultist….
For the sake of debate if a magickal group in the 23rd century wanted to ensure that their particular current survives they would take measures to use some occult time travel to go back to encourage and protect their original leader and founder of their tradition. In a sense giving the current a gentle “nudge” in the past. But this ability would also be at hand to groups who would seek to interfere and corrupt said current to ensure it doesnt become a threat to any future magickal development.
How would this work in a practical sense?
I would siggest that in the future that certain types of technology wil play a part in magickal operations. today in the UK we already have forerunners to this in the working of The Scole Experiment, who used homemade electronic devices using the chemical element Germanium to communicate and recieve information from dimensions and inhabitations that we can barely comprehend at this moment in time. Now imagine this technology in the 23rd century being used for magickal purposes and ritual work. Scrying technology/techniques developed that allow you to see back in time. Or devices that allow safe respectful communication with daimons, spirits and their like. In this context how can a 21st century occultist prevent themselves and their work from being a pawn in a future occult conflict?
Integrity
I would like to wager that to any future occultist out there who might be reading this, that you would be unable to interfere with Crowleys channellings with Aiwass. And one of the reasons is that Crowley was far sighted enough not to give the true days or times of the Aiwass channellings. He was protecting the work from future interference and corruption. In that context, how would that apply to our own personal work? To maintain integrity of your work you will need to ensure either that your journals and material is sufficiently protected from future corruption. Also you will need to ensure that dates and times will be obfuscated enough to ensure that integrity of communcations are held.
In someways the occult work being done now will be superior to what 23rd Century occultists will attempt in that they will not have the mental toughness or nerve that we have due to their over reliance on technology to penetrate, time, currents, and inhabitations that we here in the 21st century have to navigate with only our cunning and courage to travel in.
